Energy Audits

PowerTherm Solutions has been a trusted name in energy consultancy since 2002. With a team of professional engineers, we provide comprehensive energy services designed to help businesses identify energy savings, implement energy projects, and manage energy use effectively. Our approach is simple yet effective: Identify, Implement, Sustain, and Improve.

Energy Audits: The First Step to Savings

One of the key services offered by PowerTherm Solutions is energy audits. These audits are essential for identifying areas where energy savings can be made and the potential to adopt renewable energy.  Energy audits  typically uncover savings exceeding 20%.

Large organisations are required, under SI 426: 2014, to complete an energy audit every 4 years. One of PowerTherm’s Registered Energy Auditors can undertake a compliant energy audit of your facilities, and assist you in completing SEAI’s online notification form. Please click here for minimum criteria for the energy audits. For expert advice and guidance on S.I 426 Compliant Energy Audits, please contact our Energy Audit Team on info@powertherm.ie.

To support SMEs reduce their energy costs and carbon emissions, SEAI has launched the Support Scheme for Energy Audits (SSEA).  As Registered Energy Auditors for SEAI for many years, Powertherm Solutions is delighted to offer Energy Audits under this scheme.

What is an Energy Audit?

An energy audit is a comprehensive assessment of how energy is used within a building, process, or system. It involves evaluating energy consumption, identifying areas where energy can be saved, and recommending measures to improve energy efficiency and use renewable energy technologies such as Solar PV or heat pumps.

The savings and budgetary costs associated with opportunities are quantified, with comprehensive audits involving onsite measurement and detailed calculations. The audit typically includes four main steps: preparation, a site visit, analysis and reporting.

Benefits of an Energy Audit

  • Understand Energy Use: Learn where you use and waste energy.
  • Save Money: Identify no-cost and low-cost changes for immediate savings.
  • Avail of Grants: Energy audits will identify which SEAI grants may be most suited to your organisation.
  • Reduce Risk: Lower exposure to energy price and carbon tax increases.
  • Enhance Brand: Reduce carbon emissions and improve your brand reputation.
  • Invest with Confidence: Make informed decisions on energy-saving measures and renewable technologies.
  • Future-Proof Your Business: Prepare for environmental risks and impacts considered by investors.

Support for SMEs

SMEs that have an annual energy spend of over €10k can apply to SEAI for the €2,000 voucher towards the cost of a professional energy audit. This voucher often covers the full cost of the audit. The SEAI application process is straightforward, with automatic approval for eligible businesses. The audit report uses an SEAI template and must comply with SEAI requirements.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Energy Spend of at least €10,000 on energy (excluding transport energy costs) per year at the site being audited.
  • Tax Compliant
  • Registered in Ireland
  • Non-Obligated Entities*: Small / Medium Enterprises. In the case of public sector bodies, they must have a useful floor area less than 500m² and spend less than €35,000 per year on energy.

*Definition of non-obligated entities:

Non-obligated entities are organisations that are not required to complete an energy audit under Article 8 of the Energy Efficiency Directive.

If you’re unsure whether your business qualifies as a Small /  Medium Enterprise, it’s important to review the definition to ensure eligibility for schemes like the Support Scheme for Energy Audits (SSEA).  Energy Audits for SMEs | Business | SEAI
