UCD Quinn – SEAI & HEA Pathfinder Retrofit
This project is a shallow retrofit and demonstrates how the BER of a reasonably new building can be improved using lower-cost interventions. This energy upgrade has brought this building, constructed in 2001, from a BER D1 to C2 in 2023.
A key element of this project is to connect the Quinn building to UCD’s district heating system. UCD is implementing a long-term plan to decarbonise its district heating system and, as this happens, it is expected that the Quinn building’s BER will improve to B2 by 2030.
The design team consisted of PowerTherm Solutions, M&E Design and BER consultants; APNA quantity surveyor and project managers; QuilliganScally Architects; Garland structural engineers; Zero Carbon Energy Efficient Design facilitator; Ryan & Associates fire safety consultants. The main contractor was T&I Fitouts, with subcontractors Mastertech Engineering, WEEL Electrical, and
Ashdown Controls.
