MU – JPII Library: HEA Pathfinder Energy Upgrade
Maynooth University has completed its Pathfinder energy upgrade of the JP II Library. The upgrade involved roof insulation, air handling units, heat pump, condensing boilers, buffer vessel, solar PV, metering and controls. It will deliver annual carbon savings exceeding 100 tonnes and provide valuable decarbonisation experience. PowerTherm Solutions did the M&E design, so we’re looking forward to optimising the controls, particularly the heat pump operation, and measuring and verifying the energy savings.
The project was completed as part of the Energy Efficiency and Decarbonisation Pathfinder Programme (EEDPP) for the higher education sector.
The Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science (DFHERIS) and the Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications (DECC) are co-funding the programme. The Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI)) and Higher Education Authority (HEA) are administering the programme.
