Energy Consultant - (Full Time)






Position: Energy Consultant - Project Engineer

PowerTherm is interested in receiving applications for the full-time position of Project Engineer & Energy Consultant. (Part-time candidates will be considered).

Applicants must hold mechanical, electrical or building services engineering qualification (Level 8 or 9), with 3 to 6 years of relevant practical experience.

This is an excellent career opportunity for an engineer to join an expanding SME in the rapidly developing energy sector. The successful applicant will be encouraged to become a Chartered Engineer. They will receive formal training to become a Certified Energy Manager (CEM) and Certified Measurement and Verification Professional (CMVP). The position will be based in Blackrock, Co. Dublin, but will include regular travel to client sites and may incorporate a specific portion of time at client premises each week.


Reporting to the Managing Director the successful candidate will have responsibility for:

         Undertaking energy audits, preparation of the associated detailed reports including the quantification of the potential savings.

         Designing, procuring, and organising energy efficient repair, retrofit and installation projects such as LED lighting upgrades or boiler house refurbishments.

         Reviewing energy reports, identifying issues, proposing solutions and communicating these to the client.

         Assisting clients improve their energy management.

On a day to day level the successful candidate will undertake a range of activities, including:

         Desk-based analyses of clients energy use.

         Site surveys to identify main energy consumers and factors driving energy use.

         Assessing building services plant and equipment including HVAC, chillers, boilers, air compressors, pumps and the associated controls (BEMS).

         Measurement of energy consumption.

         Identification of energy saving opportunities, quantifying the likely savings and associated cost-benefits.

         Highlighting and providing cost-benefit analysis of energy retrofit projects, such as HVAC upgrade projects.

         Reviewing existing installation and prepare detailed design of new installation, description of system control, PSDS.

         Preparation of tender documentation and associated administration in accordance with public procurement requirements.

         Supervision of contractor works, project commissioning, system testing, resolution of snags, completion of required documentation.

         Measurement and verification of energy savings from energy projects.

This work will offer significant potential for the employee to broaden their skill-set and experience.

Desired Skills and Expertise

Applicants must hold mechanical or building services engineering qualification (Level 8 or 9), with 3-6 years of relevant practical experience.

The applicant must have good written and verbal communication skills, and strong numeracy skills. They must have a solid understanding of best practice building services. They must be self-motivated, well-organised, flexible, conscientious and hard working.

Experience undertaking energy audits would also be an advantage, but is not essential, as on the job training will be provided.
