Powertherm Solutions is currently looking for a Full Time Energy Engineer with an NFQ Level 7 or higher related qualification with 2+ years practical experience. (Position Filled).

We are also seeking a Part Time Project Manager & Energy Consultant with an NFQ Level 7 or higher qualification with 5+ years practical experience. (Position Filled).

Energy Engineer (Full-Time) – Position Filled

The Role

PowerTherm Solutions is interested in receiving applications for the full-time position of Energy Engineer. This is an excellent career opportunity for an engineer (or electrician) to evaluate energy opportunities, manage energy, and deliver energy projects that will help address the challenge of climate change. The successful applicant will undergo a 2 year training and development programme, after which time they will be eligible for promotion to Energy Consultant.

Applicants must hold an electrical, mechanical or building services engineering qualification (NFQ Level 8 or 9, or Level 7 with additional experience), with 2+ years of practical engineering experience (ideally as a contractor).

Activities

Reporting to the Managing Director the successful candidate will contribute to our core activities:

Energy Audits – Undertaking energy audits, preparation of the associated detailed reports including the quantification of the potential savings.

Project Engineering – Designing, procuring, and overseeing energy efficient repair, retrofit and installation projects. Examples include LED lighting and controls retrofits, heating system retrofits to condensing boilers or heat pumps, solar PV installation, building fabric insulation.

Measurement & Verification – Quantifying energy savings achieved by energy projects and reporting on these, including for the Energy Efficiency Obligation Scheme.

Energy Management – Helping clients implement and maintain an energy management system such as Energy MAP or ISO50001, and the OPW’s Optimising Power @ Work behavioural change initiative.

On a day to day level the successful candidate will undertake a range of activities, including:

  • Desk-based analyses of clients energy use.
  • Site surveys to identify main energy consumers and factors driving energy use.
  • Assessing building services plant and equipment including HVAC, chillers, boilers, air compressors, pumps and the associated controls (BEMS).
  • Measurement of energy consumption by direct instrumentation use e.g. ammeter, power recorder, flue gas analyser, flow meter, manometer to quantify energy use and plant and/or system efficiency.
  • Identification of energy saving opportunities, quantifying the likely savings and associated cost-benefits.
  • Highlighting and providing cost-benefit analysis of energy retrofit projects, such as HVAC upgrade projects.
  • Reviewing existing installation and prepare detailed design of new installation, description of system control, PSDS.
  • Preparation of tender documentation and associated administration in accordance with public procurement requirements.
  • Supervision of contractor works, project commissioning, system testing, resolution of snags, completion of required documentation.
  • Measurement and verification of energy savings based on the International Performance Measurement and Verification Protocol (IPMVP)
  • Energy management activities include issuing monthly energy reports, investigating increases in energy use, assisting clients plan and coordinate energy management, surveys, and undertaking energy awareness activities.

The varied nature of this work will offer significant potential for the employee to broaden their skill-set and experience.

Training & Development

The successful applicant will attend AEE Certified Energy Manager training and extensive on the job training.

They are also likely to receive additional training such as ISO50001 Energy Management Systems, or Certified Measurement and Verification Professional. They will attend technical briefings, including sector-related sessions and in house CPD sessions.

It is expected that after 2 years they will be a fully qualified Certified Energy Manager and suited to promotion to Energy Consultant.

They will be encouraged to become a Chartered Engineer.

Desired Skills and Experience

Applicants must hold an electrical, mechanical or building services engineering qualification. This may be NFQ Level 8 or 9; applicants with Level 7 and practical experience are also encouraged, particularly those from electrical or controls background.

Applicants should have 2+ years of practical engineering experience, ideally as a contractor. If Level 7, then 4+ years of experience. 

The applicant must have good written and verbal communication skills, and strong numeracy skills. They must have a solid understanding of building services. They must be self-motivated, well-organised, flexible, conscientious and hard working.

Remuneration

Remuneration package will be competitive and include a performance related bonus.

Project Manager & Energy Consultant (Part-Time) – Position Filled

The Role

PowerTherm Solutions is interested in receiving applications for the part-time position of Project Manager & Energy Consultant. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer to become involved in energy consultancy and help address the challenge of climate change. The successful applicant, if not from an energy consultancy background, will receive the necessary training and guidance. This part-time position is targeted at an experienced and productive engineer seeking to maintain a work-life balance.

Applicants must hold an electrical, mechanical or building services engineering qualification (NFQ Level 7 or higher), with 5+ years of practical engineering experience (ideally as a contractor).

The position will be primarily based at our office in Blackrock (close to DART), but will require visits to clients. Working hours are likely to be 20-30 hours per week. Working times/days will also be discussed at interview stage.

Salary is negotiable; it will include a performance related bonus.
